Using dictionaries to help us plan our own stories!

Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives

We have been on a word hunt in our outdoor learning environment. We found lots of words and once we had read them, we had to decide if the word was a noun, verb or adjective.

We then used these words to create our own sentences! Our partners read our sentences and had to find the nouns, verbs or adjectives.

Nouns are names or things like book, pencil, house, Cardiff, hand, computer, shoe, church or Leah.

Adjectives are describing words which tell us more about the noun, just like beautiful, blue, crazy, helpful, small or big.

Verbs are actions or doing words like jump, kick, sing, run, watch, listen or dance.

Using maps

We have been busy using our numeracy skills to read the co-ordinates on a map of Cardiff. We had to look carefully at the map to find different tourist attractions in Cardiff. We have read the directions North, East, South and West on our maps. We had to use our maps to help us answer lots of questions. We then asked our friends questions about the map of Cardiff.

We have been busy making our very own tasty pizzas!

In our Literacy learning, we have been reading recipes and identifying the features. We learnt that a recipe has a list of ingredients you will need, a list of instructions to tell you what to do (this is called the method) and usually a picture of the food too... The method has lots of bossy verbs such as, slice, bake, cut, mix, stir or heat.

We read lots of different recipes and then decided to make our own for our delicious pizzas! We chose the ingredients we wanted and then followed our recipe before being able to finally have a taste. They were beautiful! frown
