Our Faith

In Year 1 we have been learning more about our topic Belonging in Come and See. In this topic we have been learning  all about the sacrament of Baptism.

We have learnt that through the sacrament of Baptism we become a part of God’s family. We have been able to recognise the signs and symbols of Baptism and write prayers for the new baby and its parents.

We went to visit the church where Deacon Steve showed us what would happen at a Baptism. Deacon Steve told us all about the font and the Holy water used to baptise people, he used it to baptise the baby we brought with us.

He also showed us the two special oils which are used to bless the baby  he showed us how the priest would put the oil on the chest and the head of the baby in a cross shape.

He also talked to us about the Easter candle which is used to light the baptismal candle and the promises that the parents and Godparents make. We really enjoyed our visit to the church and have used what we learnt to role play baptism in class.
