Why was the first Million Pound Cheque signed at Cardiff Bay?
Throughout this inquiry, we will be finding out how the coal industry played a crucial role in the history of Wales. We will be looking at the different periods of time, including the Victorian Era and the Industrial revolution and how Coal shaped the economy in Wales, which led to the first million pound cheque being signed by the Marques of Bute at the Exchange in Cardiff Bay. We will also be visiting the Big Pit, to experience and find out about the working conditions that children endured in this period of time, and how Queen Victoria instructed an official report to find out about the harsh conditions and lack of safety nd care. From this we will then explored how Cardiff Bay was redeveloped from a derelict wasteland after the decline of the coal industry, to a thriving, bustling waterfront industry, one of the the biggest redevelopments in Europe.
