HOMEWORK IS DUE EVERY WEDNESDAY

 

Homework Task

 

Your homework this week is to practise your handwriting. All children have been given handwriting paper to do this. 

 

Instructions:

  • 1) Look at the example document to see the expectation of the task.
  • 2) Your activity is to write the letters of the alphabet from a to z. Use the back of the paper also. One line per letter. All handwriting must be done in blue pen or a pen- this is essential. DO NOT use pencil.
  • 3) Handwriting must clear, neat and legible. 
  • 4) Hand in your homework by Wednesday 11th October. 

 

Remember- try your very best and take your time with your handwriting. 

 

If you are having any problems completing this, please do not panic, your teachers will show you again on Monday.

Using a plain piece of paper at home, we would like you to draw a picture of the volcanic eruption and write at the bottom the answers to the following questions:

If you do not have any plain paper at home, any paper you have available is fine.

Homework Task

Write a letter to the new children in the Year 2 class, telling them what they will learn and what they will experience in Year 3. Include how they need to uphold our school values and virtues in Year 3. Examples of our school virtues are below. Pick two school virtues and explain how the new Year 2 class can uphold these virtues: For example compassionate and loving.

 

Children who are taking part in P.E. lessons all day on Monday (these children have been told) are to bring in their full St Philip Evans P.E. kit on Monday. Please ensure you have your St Philip Evans t-shirt, dark shorts/joggers, trainers, water bottle.

In preparation for our Summer play of 'Forever Treasure Island' in Year 3 we would like you to:

 

  • If you have a speaking or rapping part, please practise your lines over the weekend with family or friends.
  • We need props for the play- Please can you bring in any rope, fishing nets, buckets, spades, sacks you may have at home or any other pirate/treasure island related props. This is not essential, it's only if you have these items to lend at home. Please label with your full name so these are returned safely.

We are extremely excited for our Summer play of 'Forever Treasure Island' in Year 3. We would like you to create a poster welcoming your families and friends to our Summer play as your homework this week. There are two showings of the play. The first on Tuesday 11th July at 7pm and the second Thursday 13th July at 7pm. We will send a letter out to parents next week detailing costumes needed for the play.

Homework Task

Friday 16th June is a Day of Welcome ahead of Refugee Week 2023. We would like you to think about your favourite recipes or foods at home. Discuss with your family what their favourite foods are. Are there any similarities or differences between you? How many different places are these foods from?

 

We would like you to create a poster with your favourite recipe that you like to eat. Think about where this food comes from. If you want to go one step further, research online where some of these ingredients come from and add them in brackets in your ingrediencts list.

For example cumin (Egypt and the Middle East).

Homework Task

After half term on Thursday 8th June, it will be World Ocean's Day! In celebration of this, your homework over half term is to either create a hat or a badge which is Ocean themed! Please make sure your hat or badge is made out of recycled materials. Think about what recycled materials you can use and get creative!

In Summer term we will be doing more outdoor P.E, therefore you will need to bring outdoor sports kit (St Philip Evans P.E. T-shirt, shorts/leggings/joggers, trainers). 

Additionally, as we are now in Summer term, if you child has a sun hat/cap, please bring this to school on sunny days for Outdoor P.E./break times on the playground.

Homework Task 1  - Prayer Writing

Children are to write a special prayer for their homework this week about their journey through lent. Think about what lent means. Lent is about prayer, fasting and giving to others. Lent is about sacrifice and following in Jesus' footsteps. Lent is also a journey that we take to be closer to God. Please write a prayer on a piece of paper and bring into school next week. Make sure you decorate your prayer! We will add our prayers to our altar in the classroom.

Homework Task 1  - Eisteddfod Competitions 2023 

Children are welcome to enter as many competitions as they wish, and winning entries will be announced during our Eisteddfod celebrations on Wednesday 1st March 2023. The children are also encouraged to wear traditional welsh costume, a full welsh sporting kit such as rugby or football or dress in red clothing on Wednesday 1st March 2023.

Please rehearse our Eisteddfod Song 'Calon Lan'- the link to listen and read phonetically is below. 

Keep practising!

The children are able to choose which competition/s to enter. They are welcome to enter all competitions open to them. There will be house points awarded for every competition entry. The winning entries will receive house points, certificates and a special welsh prize.

 

The competitions are as follows:

 

Whole School Competitions:

1. 3D Modelling Competition – Children are encouraged to make a 3D model of something which represents Wales for them. Children may use whichever means of media they wish and the topic is broad to encourage creativity.

 

2. Cookery Competition - Children are encouraged to cook something which is a traditional Welsh recipe or depicts Wales to them.

 

3. Young Performer Competition- As part of our Eisteddfod this year we are also encouraging the children to showcase their talents. Auditions will then take place in class. Two children will then be chosen to represent their class during our Eisteddfod celebration. The children may like to prepare a song or dance, recite a poem or play a musical instrument.

 

4. Photography Competition- Children to take a photo/collage of photos of something that represents Wales or being Welsh. This could be a landmark or place of interest or anything else – be as creative as you wish!

 

5.  The Advantages of Learning Welsh – Children to present the advantages of learning Welsh. Please consider the following questions: Why is learning Welsh important? Why is learning Welsh a lifelong skill? What are the benefits of learning Welsh?

 

6. A Welsh Song - To write and perform a song highlighting the advantages of learning Welsh. The song could include Welsh words and phrases.

Your homework this week is we would like you to get involved in action against the anti-refugee bill. Below are a few ideas you may want to consider, but you may come up with any imaginative way to express your ideas. You only have to pick one idea from the below list. Further information is on the below document to understand why we are supporting refugees at St Philip Evans.

 

Wear your heart on your sleeve:

  1. Put orange hearts (the symbol for solidarity with refugees) in your window and on your walls, you can design them with positive messages and images for refugees or even write prayers on them
  2. Take pictures of you with your orange Hearts/Posters on your family day out
  3. Bake heart shaped cookies/cakes and give them to family and friends to raise awareness of the issues refugees are facing

 

If you can post your pictures on Google Classroom, that would be fantastic! If you have any issues with this, your teachers will help you.

Urdd Jambori - Cwpan o Byd (28.10.22)

On Thursday 10th November, we will be participating in Yr Urdd’s Cwpan y Byd Jambori. Children in years 2 to 6 will be joining in with 1000 other schools in Wales to sing along to Yma o Hyd in celebration of the World Cup. This will then be broadcast on TV on ‘Stwnsh Sadwrn’ on Saturday 19th November on S4C and available on their YouTube Channel.

Over half term, please have a go at practising the Yma o Hyd song. If you visit the website, you can also see the words spelt phonetically and learn some of the other songs too. https://jambori.urdd.cymru/

Year 3 Homework

HOMEWORK IS DUE EVERY WEDNESDAY

Children have all received books to take home to complete weekly homework and spellings.

Instructions:

This week, we would like you to be creative by drawing/painting/sketching a picture of Mary, Jesus' mother. During the month of October, we remember Mary Our Mother especially and we pray the rosary. Take inspiration from the examples of art work document below.

 

We would like your art work to include the following:

1) The rosary

2) The Hail Mary

2) Jesus as a baby/ young boy

3) The colour blue 

Please complete this work on paper and bring it into class so we can add it to our 

class altar display.
