This week has been Open Your Eyes week and we have had some really interesting people come to visit year 5 and tell us all about their jobs. Some people came from companies where there are many different jobs to choose from. Hopefully this week many of you have been inspired by our visitors and have hopes and dreams of one day having a job like theirs when you are older.

For your homework we would like you to complete some research on your Dream Job!

We would like you to research:

  • The roles and responsibilities you would have in that job
  • What a typical day would be like in that job
  • What qualifications you need to complete that job
  • What subjects are important for that job
  • The Habits of Mind required to complete that job (This won't be research but will be applying your knowledge of habits of Mind to the job role) Hopefully the picture below of all of the Habits of Mind will help you with this.

You can create this in your Learning Logs or use your DCF skills and complete this on the computer in an engaging way. We look forward to hearing all about your career aspirations next week.

Mathletics homework is set online. We will be checking to see who has got high marks or full marks first time so please put 100% effort into this. You can use your learning logs if you wish to do your workings out or calculations in to help you with this! Good Luck!!

The week after Half Term commencing 5th November will be Open Your Eyes week for Year 5. Every day we will have a guest speaker visiting from a different company/ job type to talk about careers to the class. It will be an inspiring, engaging week for the children and a chance to think about possible careers for them in the future.

For your homework this weekend we would like you to create your own profile of a Victorian child.

You can make up the child but base it on what you know about Victorian children.

Draw a picture of your Victorian child.

Write facts about the child such as: where they live, what their home is like, what they do in their spare time, whether they go to school or to work, what their daily life is like and any other things you could say about them.

Extension: Can you write a diary entry from the point of view of your Victorian child?
