This week we have been learning all about how to have a more environmentally friendly Christmas. It is now your turn to put these ideas and messages into action.

We would like to hear about how you have been environmentally friendly over Christmas. You might want to write a diary telling us about all the things you have done for the environment, you could draw pictures and diagrams or create a poster showing us what you have done. You can present it how you like but we want to know what you have done over Christmas to look after the environment.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.

Homework

This week in Science we have been thinking about our new question:

How do we know the earth is round?

We have learnt about Aristotle a scientist who was alive over 2000 years ago who tried to convince people the earth was round and NOT flat.

Your Homework task:

Research different ways we know that the earth is round and write about your research in the form of a non-chronological report. Please use diagrams to help back up your points.

Some ways we know the earth is round and not flat is:

  • Photographs from space
  • The fact that around the world we have different time zones
  • If you see a ship going into the horizon you will see the bottom of the ship disappear first as it goes around the world

PE next week will be on Wednesday again. It could be outside due to Christmas plays in the hall so please bring trainers and warm clothes.

Thank you

This week has been Open Your Eyes week and we have had some really interesting people come to visit year 5 and tell us all about their jobs. Some people came from companies where there are many different jobs to choose from. Hopefully this week many of you have been inspired by our visitors and have hopes and dreams of one day having a job like theirs when you are older.

For your homework we would like you to complete some research on your Dream Job!

We would like you to research:

  • The roles and responsibilities you would have in that job
  • What a typical day would be like in that job
  • What qualifications you need to complete that job
  • What subjects are important for that job
  • The Habits of Mind required to complete that job (This won't be research but will be applying your knowledge of habits of Mind to the job role) Hopefully the picture below of all of the Habits of Mind will help you with this.

You can create this in your Learning Logs or use your DCF skills and complete this on the computer in an engaging way. We look forward to hearing all about your career aspirations next week.

Mathletics homework is set online. We will be checking to see who has got high marks or full marks first time so please put 100% effort into this. You can use your learning logs if you wish to do your workings out or calculations in to help you with this! Good Luck!!
