Google classroom and sent home on a paper copy. We have sent home some maths questions to help prepare you for the upcoming national tests. These are all things we have covered this year at some point. Please support your child with these but let them work out the questions themselves. 

Please bring the sheet back in by Wednesday as on Wednesday we will go through this together in class.

Friday 3rd May - On Friday 3rd May there will be a sports kit non uniform day. If you would like to take part you need to bring in £1 for our fundraiser to support Father Lawrence. If you do not wish to donate, please come in wearing school uniform as normal.

Science Week 

Next week we are celebrating STEM week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths). The focus of the week is time. We will be thinking about how we know the time of the day and completing an experiment about this.

For your homework we want you to create your own timetable of a normal school day. Think about times things happen when you wake  up, have breakfast, leave for school, lunchtime. 

We also want you to think about how nature might help us tell the time or the time of year. How does the sun help us know the time of day? How do the trees tell us the time of Year?

World Book Day Homework

On Tuesday we will be celebrating World Book Day. For your homework we want you to do something to celebrate reading. You could make a poster about your favourite book, design a front cover for your favourite book or complete a book review about a book you would recommend.

Lenten Homework 

In our Religion lessons we are learning about the season of Lent and what Catholics do during this season. 

We have been learning about the three key ways we act during Lent: fasting, prayer and almsgiving. 

This week for your homework we want you to create something to help you reflect during this very important time.

You can be creative for this: A Lenten prayer, a Lenten Promise, a Lenten calendar with promises for the season, some Lenten artwork. Remember the liturgical colour for the season is purple, so try to include this in your homework. You could do this on Google Classroom or write / draw your own to bring in. Some ideas below to help.

Half Term Homework 9th Feb 2024

Your homework is to enter one or more of the Eisteddfod Competitions, these will be judged on Wednesday 21st February so all entries must be in by then. 

3D Modelling Competition – Children are encouraged to make a 3D model of something which represents Wales for them. Children may use whichever means of media they wish and the topic is broad to encourage creativity. 

Cookery Competition - Children are encouraged to cook something which is a traditional Welsh recipe or depicts Wales to them.

Young Performer Competition- This competition encourages children to showcase their talents. Auditions will take place in class the week beginning 26^th March. Two children will then be chosen to represent their class during our Eisteddfod celebration. The children may like to prepare a song or dance, recite a poem or play a musical instrument.

Photography Competition- Children to take a photo of something that represents Wales or being Welsh. This could be a landmark or place of interest or anything else. Remember to take the photo yourself!

T-shirt Competition- Children to design and create their own Welsh / Wales themed t-shirt. This can be on a piece of paper or on an actual t-shirt.

Water Safety 

As we have been swimming this week we have also been learning about Water Safety. Please can you complete a water safety poster, leaflet or Google slides to explain how to be safe in water. 

Think about what types of water you should swim in, who should be there when you swim, flags you might see on the beach to do with swimming, what to do if you or a friend ever got into trouble in the water.

Homework 

This weekend your homework is to help you with swimming and to be independent next week. We would like you to write yourself a packing list for school next week for swimming lessons so you know all the things that you need to bring. Please this weekend again, make sure you have labelled all the things you are wearing and bringing for swimming. You could bring your list in your bag with you so you can make sure you put all the things back in that you have. 

Please make sure your parents have checked the school app for the message about swimming.

Christmas Holidays Homework 

Swimming Preparation

After Christmas, Year 4 will be attending swimming lessons at Cardiff MET. Over the Christmas holidays you must prepare yourself for this and get yourself organised. Please familiarise yourself with all of your swimming things, including your swimming costume/shorts/ towel etc. Label all these items and the bag they will be going in. Learn how to pack your swimming bag including what to do with wet items. When we go swimming you will be responsible for all of your own things so please be ready for this. 

Stuarts

Our new inquiry after Christmas is called "How marvellous was Stuart Medicine?" 

Please complete some research on the Stuarts and present on Google slides, poster, information leaflet, artwork etc. 

Find out:

• When the Stuart time was? 
• Who ruled during that time? The Kings and Queens.  
• find out about some events that happened in this time, Great Fire of London etc.

Next week, we will be having our sustainability Christmas fair. Thank you so much for all glass jars so far, if you have anymore please can we have them by Monday to create our Christmas products with. 

Your homework is to research some ways that we can be sustainable over the Christmas holidays and create a Google Slides about this. Research some sustainable gifts, what to do with leftover food, and rubbish.

On Sunday 3^rd December it will be the first Sunday of Advent. Next week, our assembly is about Advent so your homework is based on that.

Advent is a time when Catholics like to give their time to others so your job is to: make a kindness advent calendar, write an Advent prayer or a promise of something you want to do, you could also create some Advent artwork.

As our topic is about recycling. We want you to find out about things that are made from recycled materials.

You could look at items in your home and read the labels to see what they are made from often some clothing, bags for life, bottles are made from recycled materials.

You could also research this and find some products and companies that are proud to use recycled materials to make their items. Create a poster, or a pic collage or a slides to share what you have found out. You could also choose to make something yourself out of what is in your recycling to recycle these materials.

Prayers for All Souls 

As November is the month for All Souls, we have been remembering people who are important to us.

We would like you to write your own prayer for All Souls and decorate it so we can put it in our Year 4 prayer book or you could choose to write and decorate your own Eternal Rest prayer

For your homework we would like you to find out about recycling at home. Look at the different types of bins you have at home. Think about the following questions:

This week in our RE learning we have been focusing on the word "Welcome". We have been looking at our school and finding out about how it is a welcoming place. For your homework we want you to create some work around this idea of welcoming someone new. You can choose how you want to present your work. You could: create a google slides to welcome someone new, write a new pupil a welcome letter, create a welcome poster, or create some welcoming artwork.

In school, we have been looking at the book Flood. We will be writing our own story to go with the pictures next week as it is a wordless book.

We would like you to look at the pictures and plan some ideas for the story that go with each section of the book.
