We had a great time at Big Pit Blaenavon. We really enjoyed learning about the history of the South Wales valleys and how much we used to rely on coal. The stories about how children used to work in the mines from the age of 5 shocked us, and it was so interesting going down a real mine shaft. We also met Maggie Morgan who is a historical character. She told us all about what it's like to work in the mines, and what life was like in Blaenavon at the turn of the 20th century. She had a hard life, and lost a brother and sister in the mine.

Most Shocking Second a Day Video

This is the video we have been using as Stimulus in our English lessons this week.

Year 5 had a great time exploring the galleries at Cardiff Museum.

We saw the famous Blue lady painting, and discovered the portraits and the meanings behind them with our guide, Carla!

At the end of our trip, we had an opportunity to do some sketching and even went to look at the Artes Mundi Prize entrants.

Our topic this term is all about Cardiff Bay. We've been looking at maps and designing some beautiful posters to persuade tourists to come to the bay. We've also been on some brilliant school trips. Look at what we've been doing below.
